Music Classes

At FMP, young children are immersed in a rich musical environment and provided a variety of experiences designed to expand musical understanding and skills in an active and play-based setting. Class activities include singing and chanting, moving to music (including use of props such as bean bags, scarves and streamers), playing assorted small percussion instruments, pattern instruction, and imaginative musical play. The goal of this program is to increase children's music aptitude (potential to achieve in music) through engaging musical activities that lay a foundation for lifelong music making and enjoyment. Children attend classes with a parent or caregiver, who participates alongside the child. Caregivers are important partners-in-music during the classes and offer the child a familiar model. Caregiver/child interaction is imperative for musical development, just as it is for language development. Separate classes available based on age of child to ensure experiences and interactions are safe and developmentally appropriate. See information below for class dates and times and for descriptions according to class. ***Families enrolling more than one child receive 20% off the fee of each additional child registered. For example, a four-week class is $60 for the first child and $48 for each additional child.

Registration Fees

Sibling policy discount: Class sizes are designated to maintain quality of instruction and adult-child interactions. Therefore, we request that adults refrain from bring children who are not registered for the class. Some semesters, we are able to offer a multi-age class.  It’s not the same experience as a class that is focused on one developmental age group (because the musical, social, and cognitive needs are incredibly different between birth and four years), but it offers a different value that includes the musical interactions among family members. For multi-family classes, each child must be enrolled.
