Picasso once said:

"All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up."

Children are naturally musical and it's our job to support that innate musicianship and creative ability as they grow up!

Researchers suggest that every person is born with music aptitude and that between birth and 9 years old is a sensitive period of development during which experiences and environment have an impact on lifelong music potential.

About Jill

My name is Jill Reese and I'm the lead teacher for Fredonia's Music Playhouse. Before coming to to teach at SUNY Fredonia in the music education department, I previously taught early childhood and vocal/general music in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Everyone has music ability and just needs a safe space to explore and grow that ability.  It's my privilege to create space for children and their parents to explore music together and to be part of children's music making and learning process.

Jill Reese is Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of the Office for Student Creativity and Research at SUNY Fredonia.  She has degrees in Music Education from Temple University (PhD), University of Michigan (masters), and Michigan State University (undergrad).

She presents workshops and publishes research on topics including early childhood music development, ukulele, technology, improvisation, and general music.

Jill founded Fredonia Ukulele (an all-ages community ukulele group in Chautauqua County) and a YouTube channel that provides play-along videos for ukulele (https://www.youtube.com/user/DrJillReese).

She completed levels in Orff-Schulwerk (Level I) and Music Learning Theory (Level I and II) and is on faculty with the Gordon Institute for Music Learning.

Her books “Q & A for MLT: General Music Perspectives on Music Learning Theory” and “Navigating Music Learning Theory: A Guide for General Music Teachers” are available through GIA Publications.
